1983, Graduation in physics at the Bari University, Italy. 1992, Master (Diplode d'Etudies Approfondies) in micrometeorology and fluids mechanics at the University Paris VI of Paris, France. 1999, PhD in Agronomy at the National Institute of Agronomy of Paris, France. He has long served (1983-1987) software and hardware engineering for European satellites in Milan, Italy, and joined 1988 the Agronomic Research Institute (ISA). As agro-meteorologist, he is specialised in measuring agro-climatic parameters at field level; as micro-meteorologist, he measured and modelled the energy exchanges between the soil-crop system and atmosphere. He applied these methods also in non-conventional fields (hill, crop subjected to arid and semi-arid climates). He has considerable experience in modelling and validation of the soil water balance including instrumentation in the field. He participated in several international projects (JOUB-0036, AIR1-CT-920041, FAIR3-CT-1913, FAIR-CT96-9584). At the moment he co-ordinates the Italian research unit for the evaluation of water use in hilly terrain in the EU project STAMINA (QLRT-2001-01313). More than 110 scientific publications, 30% in international peer-reviewed scientific Journals.
